An eight-month, around-the-world internship that spans at least 10 countries and five continents, completed in the third year of study.

This internship is open to all Prairie College students; however, there is an extensive application and interview process for acceptance into the GlobeTREK year.

The cost is dependent on internship choice, credits taken, travel, health insurance rates, vaccinations and other expenses.

Prairie’s Bachelor of Arts in Intercultural Studies (BAIS) includes studies in theology, anthropology and cross-culture communications to increase your understanding of God’s character, His work, and the diversity of human cultures.

The first two years of the program are spent on campus. You will study all the books of the Bible, theology, culture, and TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages).

The third year is spent participating in the GlobeTREK program. You spend one month travelling with your team in Asia to see what God is doing there. Then you go on your own to a nation/ministry of your choosing for six months. During this time you will learn the language and culture and minister along with seasoned missionaries. Finally, with your team, you travel for another month in Africa and the Middle East. Your GlobeTREK year will challenge you—in your relationship with God and ministry as well as dealing with injustice and poverty. Your experience will give you new eyes to see the world and a renewed heart for God’s mission as you enter the last year of college.

This program is also available through online education.

TESOL Certification
An accredited Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) Certificate will equip you for overseas English teaching and community-based instruction for recent immigrants and refugees. Whether God leads you overseas or Canada, TESOL Certification is a significant tool to reach those whose first language is not English.

Prairie’s Bachelor of Arts in Intercultural Studies – Global Social Justice (GSJ) major provides a firm grounding in the theories, methods, and practice of social justice involvement, providing the student with the ideal combination of knowledge and skills to successfully continue to master’s level study or obtain entry-level employment in this sector.

GlobeTREK
A highlight of this program is a 8-month internship that will lead you to at least 10 countries and 4 continents. For the first two months of travel with your fellow students, you will observe and at times participate in ministry with orphans, street kids, prisoners, AIDS victims and former child soldiers. Church planting in a creative access nation, or a post-Christian area, and anti-human trafficking initiatives will also be on the agenda.

Subsequently, you will immerse yourself in a social justice six-month internship with a non-government organization (NGO) at a location of your own choosing. You will work and study under the leadership of local mentors as well as study the local language.

Throughout the entire eight months, you will work towards completing twenty-seven credits of coursework.
